Youth Sailing

Helping young sailors learn the fundamentals, join a team, race locally, and build a lifelong connection to the water.

Youth on the water

Learn locally. Sail for life.

Youth sailing classes are offered through the club’s partnership with the Oregon Boating Foundation. Young sailors can also take part in high-school sailing, Wednesday evening racing, practices, and local regattas.

The program’s focus is bigger than competition: safe boat handling, good seamanship, confidence, teamwork, and helping young people become lifelong sailors.

Club boats

A fleet built for learning.

YBYC maintains six Vanguard Club 420s used for instruction, practices, Wednesday racing, and local or regional regattas. Other training boats may be used depending on sailor experience and weather.

Youth sailors should arrive prepared for changing coastal conditions. Program leaders provide current guidance on required personal flotation devices, wetsuits, footwear, gloves, and other sailing gear.
