Wednesday Night Racing

Regular weeknight racing gives YBYC skippers and crew more time on the water throughout the sailing season.

Join the fleet

A standing date with Yaquina Bay.

Wednesday racing is organized as spring, summer, and fall series. Racing is free for YBYC members and is a regular way for both skippers and crew to build experience, meet other sailors, and take part in club racing.

You do not need to own a boat to get involved. Contact the Fleet Chair about crew openings, club boats, checkouts, and the current week’s race plans.

Anyone interested in racing is welcome. Skippers submit a Wednesday Evening Racing Entry Form and waiver to the Race Chair. US Sailing membership is encouraged.

Racing is free for YBYC Individual, Household, Student, and Military members. Other skippers pay $80 per series. New non-members may race on two Wednesdays before entry fees apply.

Don't have a boat? Capri Club members are encouraged to book the S/V Fulmar, the club’s Capri 22, for Wednesday night races. The Club 420s are also available to any qualified member for the centerboard series. Or join us before the race at the clubhouse to see if anyone needs crew.

Explore Our Fleet

Racing follows the current US Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing. Keelboats and centerboard boats are scored separately using Portsmouth Yardstick time-on-time handicapping. A one-design fleet may be scored when five or more one-design boats enter a series.

Series scoring is best five of seven races. Sail at least five races in a series to qualify for its overall winner or the combined-series winner.

Notices to competitors are posted on the official notice board inside the YBYC clubhouse. Race courses use NOAA Chart 18581 navigation aids or marks set by the race committee; marks are left to port unless otherwise specified.

Course, start, and finish details can vary with committee and chase-boat arrangements. Racers may need to record their finish time to the second and report it to the Race Chair. See the race instructions and contact race@yaquinabayyachtclub.org with questions.
